Bitki Koruma Bölümünün faaliyet alanı bitkileri hastalık ve zararlılardan korumak ve arındırmaktır. Bitki Koruma Bölümünde verilen lisans ve lisansüstü eğitim ile ihtiyaç duyulan teknik eleman ve uzmanlar yetiştirilmektedir. Bölümde yürütülen araştırmalarla, Entomoloji Anabilim Dalında bitkilere zararlı böcek, akar ve nematodların, Fitopatoloji Anabilim Dalında ise bitkilerde hastalık ve zarar oluşturan fungus, virüs, bakteri ve yabancı otların teşhislerinin yanı sıra, biyolojileri ve kontrol yöntemlerinin geliştirilmesi ve uygulamada ihtiyaç duyulan eksiklikleri gidermeye yönelik araştırmalar yürütülmektedir. Bitki koruma bölümünü oluşturan Entomoloji ve Fitopatoloji Anabilim Dallarında toplam 14 öğretim üyesi ve 4 araştırma görevlisi bulunmaktadır.

Adnan Menderes ÜniversitesiBitki Koruma Bölümü ilk kez 1993-1994 Eğitim-Öğretim yılında öğrenci alarak lisans ve lisansüstü eğitime başlamış ve ilk lisans mezunlarını 1998 yılında vermiştir. Bölüm Entomoloji ve Fitopatoloji olmak üzere iki Ana Bilim Dalından oluşmaktadır.

-Eğitimde, Bitki Koruma sorunları ve çözüm yollarına ilişkin çağdaş bilgi ile donanmış, bilgiye ulaşma ve sentezleme yeteneği gelişmiş, çevre ve insan sağlığına duyarlı, mesleki etik bilinci ve sorumluluğuna sahip, çevresine önderlik edebilecek uzman ziraat mühendisleri yetiştirmektir.
-Bitki Korumaya yönelik AR-GE faaliyetleri kapsamında, bitki koruma etmenlerinin tanı ve mücadelesinde yeni teknoloji ve yöntemler geliştirmek, kullanmak, yöre, bölge, ülke ve dünyadaki bitkisel üretim süreçlerine ve literatüre olumlu katkılar sağlamaktır

Eğitim-Öğretimdesunduğu çağdaş kaliteli eğitim programı ile Bitki Koruma alanında ülke tarımına yön verebilecek, özel ve resmi kurumlarca aranan, kendi disiplinlerinde söz sahibi, lider kadrolar yetiştiren;
-çağdaş bilgi ve teknolojiler doğrultusunda bitki koruma sorunlarına projeler ile çözümler üreten;
-çevre dostu bitki koruma uygulamalarına önderlik yapan, ulusal ve uluslararası bilim dünyası ile bağlarını geliştirmiş, bir bölüm olmaktır.

Bitki koruma sorunlarının çözümüne yönelik proje hazırlama, uygulama, sonuçlarını değerlendirme bilgi ve becerisini kazandırmaktır. Programı başarı ile tamamlayan mezunlar "Bitki Koruma alanında Yüksek Lisans Diploması" alır ve “Ziraat Yüksek Mühendisi” ünvanını kazanırlar.Bitki Koruma Bölümünde doktora ünvanı, aldıkları derslerde başarılı olmuş, tez konularıyla ilgili çalışmaları tamamlamış ve tezlerini başarı ile savunmuş adaylara verilmektedir.

Fitopatoloji anabilim dalında; genel fitopatoloji, mikoloji, bakteriyoloji, viroloji ve herboloji olmak üzere 5 adet laboratuvar, 4 adet sera, 2 adet elek ev ve 5 adet iklim odası, Entomoloji Ana bilim dalında; genel entomoloji, akaroloji, toksikoloji ve Hematoloji olmak üzere 4 adet laboratuvar ve 5 adet iklim odası bulunmaktadır. Ayrıca uygulama derslerinde öğrencilerin kullanabileceği iki adet mikroskobi laboratuvarı bulunmaktadır.

Entomoloji ana bilim dalında böcek, akar ve nematod tanısı yapmaya yönelik mikroskoplar, mikroskopta görüntü almaya yarayan görüntü analiz ekipmanı, bitki ekstresi çıkarma ekipmanları, tarım ürünlerinde pestisit kalıntı analizinde kullanılan gas kromatografi cihazı bulunmaktadır. Fitopatology ana bilim dalında fungusların tanısında kullanılmak üzere mikroskoplar, patojen kültürlerinin oluşturulmasında kullanılan steril kabin, otoklav, etüv ve inkübatörler, moleküler tanı çalışmalarında kullanılmak üzere real time PCR , ve PCR cihazları ve jel görüntüleme cihazları bulunmaktadır.

PhD Agriculture Engineer

For admission to the program, - Applicants should have BSc or MSc degree from a program that has been recognized by the department and the Institute Executive Committee of Biological Science, -Applicants should have a score at least 55 from the Academic Staff and Graduate Study Education Exam (ALES) offered by Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) and ones who applies with first cycle diploma should have a score at least 70. -Applicants who apply with first cycle diploma should have at least 75 (out of 100) graduation point average (GPA), ones who apply with second cycle diploma should have at least 75 GPA, ones who apply with a diploma from a program which has 10 semester exluding foreign language preparation semesters, should have at least 60 GPA. - Applicants should have at least 55 from the National Foreign Language Exam (YDS) or equal score from other valid foreign language exams accepted by by the Council of Higher Education . -No revised ALES score required from the aplicants who apply for Ph.D program at the first and second semester of his/her graduation from second cycle. -Evaluation and placement of Ph.D. degree applicants as follows; - For evaluation, total score is compromised of 50 % of ALES test, 20 % of first cycle GPA (If applicant apply with a first cycle diploma) or 20% of second cycle GPA (If applicant apply with a second cycle diploma) and 30 % of oral exam. Evaluations are performed by Institute Executive Committee. - Minimum score of 70 out of 100 should be taken by the applicants in order to be eligible for the placement. - Oral test is performed in given date and place by three academic staffs who are appointed by Institute Executive Committee among from four academic staffs suggested by the subdivision of the department. - Applicants who are not attended to oral test are disqualified. - Final scores obtained by the applicants are declared from ascending to descending order. - In case of equal scores, applicants’ oral test score is considered. - Results of applications are send to Institute Chair within two business days after completion of oral test and announced after Institute Executive Committee decision. Applicants, who is a foreign country citizen, or a turkish citizen earned first and second cycle degree from foreing countries or a turkish citizen living in a foreign country should apply by regarding the terms of conditions offered by the Council of Higher Education. The applicant should also be eligible for the admission rules of the Deparment of Plant Protection and Institute Executive Committee of Biological Sciences .

Students who successfully completed at least one semester in third cycle program in another department within the Institute of Biological Science or in another higher education Institutes independent from the University are eligible for the third cycle program of the University via lateral transfer. Lateral transfers are determined by offering of department subdivision and Institute Executive Committee’s decision. For the lateral transfer, students should hold acceptance conditions of the relevant department successfully complete the continued courses in the previous department and receive a grade minimum 75 out of 100 or equivalent. Acceptance of student to the relevant program is decided by Institute Executive Committee in view of department subdivision.

Candidates who has fulfilled all coursework requirements, passed proficiency examinations , completed research works on dissertation and passed the dissertation defense exam earn Ph.D degree inthe field of Plant Protection.

The program is comprised of a minimum of total 21 local credits that are equivalent to seven courses in addition to two seminars, doctorate qualification and onedissertation work . The program is comprised of elective courses. Program requires total of 240 ECTS credits.
