Biyoloji Anabilim Dalında 17 Profesör, 4 doçent, 2 doktor öğretim üyesi ve 2 Araştırma Görevlisi olmak üzere toplam 24 akademik personel ile botanik, ekoloji, genel biyoloji, moleküler biyoloji, hidrobiyoloji ve zooloji olmak üzere 6 bilim dalında eğitim ve araştırma faaliyetleri sürdürülmektedir.

Anabilim dalımızda eğitim-öğretim faaliyetleri, 1999-2000 Eğitim-Öğretim yılında Yüksek Lisans programı ile başlamıştır. 2003-2004 Eğitim-Öğretim yılında ise Doktora programı açılmıştır . 2011-2012 eğitim-öğretim yılı itibariyle 44 Yüksek Lisans Öğrencisi ve 16 Doktora Öğrencisi mezun olmuştur.

Misyonumuz öğrencilerimizi günümüz gereksinimlerine uygun olarak Biyolojik Bilimler alanında bilgi ve becerilerle donatılmış çağdaş, bilimsel ve çözüm üreten Biyolog'lar olarak yetiştirmektir. Buradan mezun olan öğrencilerimizin rekabet güçleri yüksek ve aranan niteliklere sahip elemanlar olmaları hedefimizdir.

Biyoloji alanında uluslararası düzeyde tanınan, tercih edilen ve kabul gören bir bölüm olmaktır.

Biyoloji Anabilim Dalının amacı; lisans üstü öğrenim görecek öğrencilerin biyoloji ve alt bilim dalları ile ilgili bilimsel araştırma yeteneğini geliştirmek, bilgi birikimini arttırmak, bilgi erişimi, değerlendirmesi ve yorumlaması yeteneklerini kazandırmaktır.

Anabilim Dalı çalışanlarının araştırma alanları farklı alanlara yayılmıştır. Bölümümüzde hem eğitim hem de araştırma için kullanılan şu laboratuvarlar da bulunmaktadır: Bitki Fizyolojisi ve Doku Kültürü Araştırma, Laboratuvarı, Biyokimya Araştırma Laboratuvarı, Herbaryum, Hidrobiyoloji Araştırma Laboratuvarı, Hücre Kültürü Laboratuvarı, Mikrobiyoloji Araştırma Laboratuvarı, Moleküler Biyoloji ve Ekoloji Araştırma Laboratuvarı, Omurgasız Hayvanlar Araştırma Laboratuvarı, Vektör Böcekler Araştırma Laboratuvarı, Vektör Kontrol ve Biyosidal Ürünleri Araştırma Laboratuvarı, Zooloji Müzesi. Biyoloji Anabilim Dalında , ERASMUS programı çerçevesinde gerekli koşulları sağlayan öğrencileri yurt dışındaki üniversitelere göndererek bilgi, beceri ve tecrübelerinin artmasına katkıda bulunmaktadır.

Biyoloji bölümümüz bilgisayar ve projeksiyon donanınıma sahip 100 kişilik 2 sınıf, 80 kişilik ve 40 kişilik birer sınıfa sahiptir. Bunlara ek olarak teknik donanıma sahip 3 adet 40 kişilik öğrenci laboratuvarı bulunmaktadır.

Biology masters degree program consist of six semester programme.

Exchange and transfer between programs are subject to Adnan Menderes University, Institute of Science, Education and Examination Directive.

The Master's Degree in Biology is awarded to the graduates who have successfully fulfilled all programme requirements.

The applicants who hold a Bachelor's Degree and willing to enroll in the Master's programme should have sufficient score (at least 55 out of 100) from the Academic Staff and Graduate Study Education Exam (ALES) conducted by Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) or other scores equivalent to ALES score of 55. Applicants should also have related documents written in announcement. The applicants should provide following documents due to last application date: Bachelor's Degree diploma, transcript, score document from ALES/TUS or equivalent exams. The assessment for admission to masters programs is based on : 50% of ALES or TUS, 20% of academic success in the undergraduate programmeand 30% of interview grade. The candidates having an assessed score of 60 at least are accepted into the Master's programme.

The rules for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. A student who is currently enrolled in a Master's Degree programme in the same discipline at another institution and has successfully completed at least one semester, upon submitting all required documents before the deadline, may transfer to the Master's Programme at Adnan Menderes University upon the recommendation of the department administration and with the approval of the Administrative Committee of the Graduate School. The decision taken will also include eligibility for exemption from some course requirements of the graduate program.

The programme consists of courses delivered within the graduate programme of the department and in related fields, one seminar course, and thesis, with a minimum of 21 local credits. The seminar course and thesis are non-credit and graded on a pass/fail basis. The total ECTS credit of the programme is 120 ECTS. Students are required to take a mid-term examination and/or complete other assigned projects/homework during the semester and, additionally, are required to take a final examination and/or complete a final project for course evaluation. The final grade is based on the mid-term examination grade, the final examination grade and/or evaluation of final project, with the contributions of 40% and 60%, respectively. In order to pass any course, a Master's student must receive at least 70 out of 100. Students must repeat courses they have failed or may substitute courses the Department accepts as equivalent. Students must register for thesis work and the Specialization Field course offered by his supervisor every semester following the semester, in which the supervisor is appointed. A student, who has completed work on the thesis within the time period, must write a thesis, using the data collected, according to the specifications of the Graduate School Thesis Writing Guide. The thesis must be defended in front of a jury. The Master's thesis jury is appointed on the recommendations of the relevant Department Chairperson and with the approval of the Administrative Committee of the Graduate School. A majority vote by the jury members determines the outcome of the thesis or examination. The vote can be for "acceptance", "rejection" or "correction".
